With the prices of so much going up these days it is really important to save where you can.

Computers, digital readout screens, televisions and more draw electricity even when you are not using them.

None of this may seem like much but all the little habits that you change to save money really do add up to big savings.  There is an old saying that goes something like this “If you’ll watch how you spend the pennies the dollars will take care of themselves.”

Do a quick look at the electronics in your life that draw power while you aren’t using them.  You probably don’t really think about it.  Doing a quick check in my home I have figured out that the office is the worst offender as I have the digital readouts on my phone, computers, and printers.  The living room is probably the next room on the list with the entertainment center and a few other things.  The kitchen has the stove and microwave readout and, well, I think you get the picture.  The bottom line is you are paying for all this.

Now I know some of you are going to think that shutting some of those items off is not practical and for some of them you are right.  So let’s focus on what can be turned off when not in use to save as much of your money as you can.

As I mentioned, computers and their devices are a big way to waste electricity.  If your computer is off it is unlikely that you will need the monitor or the printer, so getting a power strip that shuts off these devices  would be a great way to save .  To further help save money you can buy electronics that help you to save on electricity. There are computer power supplies that are highly efficient and have automatic shutdowns, and computer hard drives that are designed to use less electricity.

If you have the option of shutting some of the readouts off after say you have gone to bed you can take advantage of that as well.

Trim and conserve where you can.  The new habits will help you save money and resources
