The interest in solar energy in increasing in the world, the United States has been a little behind on this green energy natural resource and it is now time to catch up.
Materials Needed:
Solar Robot kit
Crayons, paints or colored pencils
Online Coloring Book
1. Learn By Making a Robot/Machine
While we are looking toward more environmentally friendly green energies we also need to be able to understand and explain it on a basic level so children both big and small can understand the changes that are taking place. This can be accomplished by doing some very pleasant and fun activities.
You can introduce solar robot kits to both build and then play with. The children will learn that the toy doesn’t take batteries which can add up to many dollars coming out of their allowance. All they have to do is charge their toy in the sun.
Another way to teach kids about solar energy is to use a solar coloring book. Using art is using multisensory learning. They can color or paint the sun, the solar panels and the solar water heater any color that they like. The children can follow the electric path into the rooms in the home that have items that use electricity. This will help a child or anyone relate to how solar energy directly affects them. It seems that the only time we really give any thought to electricity is when we don’t have it. Suddenly we realize that TVs, computers, microwaves, hairdryers and lights just don’t work. It is then that we notice how much we depend on electricity in our lives.
3. Learn from Simple Activities
Once you incorporate life activities such as turning on a light with something fun such as powering a robot kit, then it is just an everyday part of life (no tests or grades here!). There is no mystery just a change in energy sources.
The sun has been here for a long time and it is a free gift. It has been working for us for many years helping plants grow, warming us up, and giving us beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It is now time to tap its fun potential. There is no doubt that when children have fun with solar energy they will unleash their imaginations to become the inventors of tomorrow. So please, let them have fun and we will all benefit.
